Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes is the newest project from the NYC based, queer musician, Klovis Gaynor & band members, Brayden Baird, Dane Bundschuh, Josh Hausman & Larah Helayne. The group was established in 2023 & will release their debut album, SAVE ME 4 THE SPANK BANK, on March 14th 2025. They approach their songs with confidence & forcefulness, yet also fragility, gentleness, & hope. They are the sound of crying, the sound of fucking, the sound of banging pianos, distorted guitars, fear, lust, hate, love, cum, cum & more cum.

"At its core,SAVE ME 4 THE SPANK BANKis an emotional battlefield. The title track sees Klovis pleading for love and recognition, while ‘HORNED UP HAZY BABY’ exposes the wounds of sexual abuse and abandonment. Sonically, the album swings between delicate piano melodies and explosive crescendos, making it as unnerving as it is mesmerising."

"This album is far away from manufactured and closer to human reflection. It's an album that hurts, makes you uncomfortable, and, at the same time, liberates. When appreciated for what it is, it might be seen as a catharsis, a desperate cry for salvation, a public confession, and a piece of art that will resonate with those who dare to listen."

"Imagine Leonard Cohen covering Queen, and you’ll have an inkling of what “HORNED UP HAZY BABY” sounds like – raw and emotionally searing. “BABY PINK SPLIFFS” rolls out on a dark piano riding loose, potent percussion as the vocals reveal turmoil-ridden passion, urgent and fuming."

"Klovis Gaynor’s “BABY PINK SPLIFFS” is chock-full of surprises and subversion. And there is so much put into it that even on repeated listens, you’re bound to find things that had escaped you before, and what this means, of course, is that everyone involved was bringing their A-game to recording every single time, delivering something that is first and foremost MEMORABLE, perhaps the most unapologetic group of songs that you’ll ever listen to in your life."

"...Klovis paints these sexual encounters as being therapeutic. He adds, “Something special about Sniffies in the summer / Something special about a map of local dick and hole pics.”  He’s brutally honest, isn’t he? Ah, the openness of sex positivity.  Besides the bold, colorful lyrics, the musical accompaniment is also colorful – picturesque...."

"...let’s just say if your fire’s not fully stoked by Klovis & Co’s heady mix of religion and eroticism and pleas to give Jesus head well you’re made of stronger stuff than us…

…sonically the song’s a sumptuous feast for the ears so unbridled in its passion that it’s on the verge of being obscene even before you take in the lyrics with florid pianistic flourishes supplied by none other than bandleader Klovis Gaynor themselves as supported by his merry band of urinal cakes—a worthy epithet for a collective whose playing can be hard and heavy as a deodorizing hockey puck one moment, soft and squishy as a pink spongy sea anemone that’s been peed on repeatedly at another"

"Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes are an incredibly queer quintet coming out of NY. The vibe is one part smoky piano bar, one part glam rock, a dash of cabaret, and a sprinkle of punk sensibilities. Klovis' voice reminds me at times of a sultry Tim Curry, and at other times like a wailing John Nolan. Lush strings and gentle piano arrangements sound like something that could have been written for the debut ANOHNI "Antony and The Johnsons" LP. There's a delicious, although too brief, fuzzy glammed out guitar solo that I just adore. Above it all, lyrics like "god turned me on / that fag made me gay" or "lord come and fuck me / lord rail me hard" ring out with earnestness. Can't wait to hear what the impending album sounds like!"

"Klovis’ mastery of piano ushers listeners through this range of emotions— at times the keys are choppy, bright, and rhythmic; at others they are smooth and tender alongside an accompanying cello. The lyrics and sonics together grab the gentle and the callous for one big, cathartic hug."
